Nicotinamide riboside chloride

NR (nicotinamide riboside) is a NAD+ precursor with the longest human trial record of the two — the compound most of the published NAD+ literature actually used. Supplied as 60 capsules at 500 mg.

About NR

NR is the other NAD+ precursor — nicotinamide riboside, the smaller of the two molecules, and the one that enters the supply route a step earlier than NMN.

RetaNord supplies it as 60 capsules at 500 mg of nicotinamide riboside chloride per capsule, in a sealed amber bottle, with independent identity and content testing on the lot — see what is actually in the bottle. Supplied for laboratory and in vitro research use only.

How NR works

NAD+ has two roles. As a redox carrier it cycles between NAD+ and NADH, shuttling electrons through glycolysis, the citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation; a carrier is regenerated, so it is not consumed.

As a consumed substrate it is cleaved by sirtuins, PARPs and CD38 as part of their catalytic cycle. That is the consumption that links the cellular concentration of NAD+ to deacetylation signalling, DNA repair and calcium signalling — and the reason precursor supply is a research subject at all.

NR enters that route one step earlier than NMN. That is a difference in chemistry, not a claim that one is better than the other — and this page does not make that claim.

A description of the compound, provided for research context only. Not a therapeutic claim.

What we do not claim

We will not tell you what this will do for you. No supplier can tell you that honestly, and the ones that try are selling you the claim rather than the compound.

What we will tell you is exactly what is in the bottle: the compound, the strength, the count, and the name of the laboratory that measured it. That is the part a seller can actually be held to, so that is the part we put in writing.

Supplied for laboratory and in vitro research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.

What is actually in the bottle

A capsule is opaque. You cannot look at one and see the compound, the strength, or whether there is anything in there at all. Everything you are told about a capsule is a claim by whoever filled it — including ours.

That is why the lot is measured. An independent laboratory checks identity and content on the batch before it goes on the shelf, so the figure on the label is something someone outside this company put their name to.

It is the only part of a supplement page that can be checked rather than believed, so it is the part we build the product on. Published certificates for the current catalogue are on the certificates page.

NR — questions

What is in the bottle?

60 capsules, 500 mg of nicotinamide riboside chloride per capsule, in a sealed amber glass bottle.

Why is NR cheaper than NMN?

It costs less to make. Both bottles hold the same 60 capsules at the same 500 mg, and both lots go through the same independent identity and content testing.

How do I know the capsules contain what the label says?

Because an independent laboratory measured the lot you receive. A capsule is opaque — testing is the only thing that turns a printed figure into a fact.

NR or NMN — which one?

Chemistry, not a ranking. NR enters the NAD+ supply route a step earlier; NMN sits one step from NAD+ itself. We do not claim either is better. See NMN.

Does this replace the NAD+ research kit?

No. NAD+ is supplied as lyophilized vials for in vitro work. These are capsules — a different format for a different kind of study.

How is it shipped?
